Technology as a cult: Adoption of digital technologies and group identity
Blockchain and its usefulness have been a matter of heated debate between proponents and opponents of the technology. Two examples of the questions are whether the technology delivers what it promises and if financial instruments based on the technology are useful. As a subject to objective tests, there should be an ultimate test for the conventional questions about the technology's usefulness. However, the communication between the camp of adopters and the others seems inefficient in answering the questions. In this research project, we investigate the emergence of a cult of technology believers and how this process can affect the overall adoption of the technology.
