The Amsterdam Centre for Business Innovation (ACBI) collected the data used to compile DX300 digital transformation ranking. The survey to collect the data was led by the ACBI’s Henk Volberda, professor of Strategic Management and Innovation at the University of Amsterdam. The ranking also reveals potential concerns about reliance on American big tech.

The ranking identifies which companies in the Netherlands are leaders in digital transformation and which companies facilitate (enable) this transformation. This resulted in 2 lists of 150 organisations each: 1 with Leaders and and 1 with Enablers.

Financial institution heads Leaders category

The bank ING placed first for the 3rd year in a row. Surprisingly, the Dutch airline KLM and the mail and delivery service PostNL lost their position in the top 10. Volberda explains that this is because of the advances made by delivery services such as UPS and DHL in the Dutch market. And KLM’s digital customer service may also not be as good as it has been in past years.

The Enablers

An important development in this category is the emergence of American tech companies (Big Tech) in the ranking. Amazon Web Services climbed from number 34 to 4th place in the ranking. Salesforce moved from 16 to 7, and Oracle went from number 32 to 10th place. Microsoft (6) and McAfee (9) maintained their position in the top 10.

Concerns

The 2025 DX300 shows that dependence on American big tech is growing. ‘This is cause for concern’, says Volberda. ‘We’re seeing fewer Dutch and European companies in the ranking. The government and corporations are making large-scale use of the services offered by these companies. Looking at the relationship between American tech companies and the current Trump administration, this makes us vulnerable'.

About the DX300

The ranking was compiled by Volberda and project leader Niels van der Weerdt. It is based on a survey conducted among 5,836 corporate decision-makers. Together, the respondents provided almost 18,000 assessments of 1,377 organisations on various criteria related to digital transformation.
