Henk Volberda en Kevin Heij of the UvA’s Amsterdam Centre for Business Innovation (ACBI) were co-authors of the book along with Frans van den Bosch of Erasmus University Rotterdam.
The book explores how companies innovate their business model. Drivers of innovation include leveraging and perfecting an existing business model (exploit) and seeking a new business model (explore).
The authors analysed cases involving companies such as DSM, Apple, Google, the Port of Rotterdam Authority, Royal IHC, General Motors, IKEA, McDonald’s, Vopak, NXP, and Randstad to give readers positive and negative examples of business innovation. According to the ASQ review, ‘Readers familiar with the scholarly domain of business-model innovation will appreciate this book’s elegant synthesis of cases and existing research perspectives; those less familiar will find it a good point of entry'.
